Greetings, kids! Have you ever been told “She goes to school” instead of “She goes to school every day”? Today, we will learn all there is to know about Subject-Verb Agreement!

Let’s work together to make our sentences sound flawless! 🎯

🤔 What Is Subject-Verb Agreement?

It’s simple! The subject (who or what the statement is about) and verb (the action word) of a phrase must match.

✅ When the topic is a single person or thing (singular), the verb frequently ends in -s or -es.

✅ If the subject is multiple, the verb does not end in -s.

📚 Examples That Make It Easy

Let’s look at some examples:

SubjectCorrect Verb FormExample Sentence
He / She / ItVerb + s or esShe plays the guitar. 🎸
I / You / We / TheyJust the verb (no s)They play outside every evening. ⚽

🧠 Remember These Golden Rules!

  1. He, She, It = Verb + s
    • He runs fast.
    • She likes apples. 🍎
    • It jumps high!
  2. I, You, We, They = Verb (no s)
    • I run fast.
    • You like apples.
    • They jump high!

🛑 Watch Out for Tricky Sentences!

Some sentences try to trick you! 😄

  • The dog barks. (Just one dog 🐶 – add s to the verb)
  • The dogs bark. (More than one dog – no s on the verb)

Even if there are many words in the sentence, always find the main subject to decide the verb!
