What is ISRO?
The Indian Space Research Organization is known as ISRO. It is the space agency of India. It was designed to enable us explore other planets, launch satellites, and send rockets into space.

Meet the Man Behind ISRO – Dr. Vikram Sarabhai
India’s space program is credited to Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. He thought that space research should be applied to better weather forecasting, education, and agricultural assistance, among other aspects of daily life.
His foresight enabled India to start developing rockets and launching satellites to advance our nation’s intelligence.
India’s First Rocket Launch
In 1963, India launched its very first rocket from a place called Thumba in Kerala. Guess what? The rocket was so small, its parts were carried on bicycles and bullock carts!
This humble beginning was the start of something great.
Amazing Achievements by ISRO

1. Aryabhata – Our First Satellite
In 1975, India launched Aryabhata, its first satellite. It was named after the famous Indian mathematician and astronomer.
2. Chandrayaan-1 – India’s Moon Mission
In 2008, ISRO launched Chandrayaan-1, which found water molecules on the Moon! This was a huge discovery for the entire world.
3. Mangalyaan – India Reaches Mars
In 2013, India launched Mangalyaan, our first mission to Mars. It made India the first Asian country to reach Mars, and we did it in our first try—that’s super rare!
Mangalyaan was also one of the cheapest Mars missions in the world.
4. Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3
In 2019, Chandrayaan-2 went to the Moon again. Though the lander didn’t work as planned, it taught us valuable lessons.
In 2023, Chandrayaan-3 made India proud by successfully landing on the Moon’s south pole. India became the first country in the world to do this!
5. Aditya-L1 – Studying the Sun
In 2023, ISRO launched Aditya-L1, a satellite that will study the Sun and help us understand solar storms and how they affect Earth.
